New artificial intelligence technologies have been introduced by Saudi Arabia to facilitate travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims under the Makkah Route Initiative.
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior has launched the advanced digital solutions as part of the efforts to improve services for pilgrims.
This will ensure a smoother travel experience.
The initiative is not a new one and it is in its 8th year. The initiative is being implemented through 17 pots in 10 countries. The information was revealed by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
They have developed a new smart mobile device that uses AI and data technologies. The device simplifies procedures.
The newly developed device will be extremely useful for the pilgrims with disabilities and the elderly pilgrims.
The procedures will be simplified by an automated system.
The device is very useful as it can be used to verify visas and travel documents. It can also capture facial images, capture biometric data and passport details.
The device can do all this in 40 seconds per pilgrim.
The authorities of Saudi Arabia said that the initiative reflects the progress of Kingdom in adopting modern technologies to speed up procedures, improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall pilgrim experience during Hajj.
Depending on the Dhul Hijjah moon, this year’s hajj is expected to fall between March 25 and May 30.
In a related development, a new rule has been announced by Saudi Arabia. The new rule sets the minimum age of hajj and has restricted children under the age of 15 from performing Hajj.
The spokesperson of the Pakistan Aviation Authority said that the directive took effect from May 3, 2026.
The spokesperson said that all Hajj visas issued to children under 15 have been cancelled. Moreover, anyone who has not reached the age of 15 by May 27, 2026, will be ineligible to perform Hajj this year.
