Government announces AI, IT training initiative for youth

AI IT training

The federal government has decided to extend the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to Gilgit-Baltistan, allowing between 500 and 1,000 young people from the region to receive training in modern technologies, including information technology, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) has been extended by the federal government to Gilgit-Baltistan.

This has allowed between 500 to 1000 young people from the region to receive training in modern technologies.

The decision was taken during a meeting in Islamabad between Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan and Ghulam Abbas.

The focus of the meeting was to expand the NAVTTC-Huawei Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme (PMYSDP) to Gilgit-Baltistan.

Ghulam Abbas during the meeting submitted a formal request along with proposals for the programme’s expansion.

According to him the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan have strong potential in emerging technologies. However, the youth have limited access to proper training opportunities. This is mainly due to geographical barriers and a lack of institutional infrastructure.

He further proposed that about 500-1000 young people should be recruited from the region for Huawei-certified international training programs over the next 12 months.

Enrolling in such programmes will increase their employability in technology and global digital markets.

It was emphasised by Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan that Gilgit-Baltistan is very important for the Prime Minister.

He further revealed that all the initiatives under the youth skill development programme will be on a priority basis extended to Gilgit-Baltistan

Another important point discussed in the meeting was the establishment of Gilgit-Baltistan High-Tech Digital Skills Programme.

The Programme is aimed at training 2500 young people in internationally recognised IT and digital skills over the course of the next 3 years.
