India’s IT minister apologised to the visitors of the global artificial intelligence summit in New Delhi for the mismanagement and chaos at the event, a private media outlet reported on Tuesday.
The AI Summit in New Delhi, the fourth yearly meeting on Artificial Intelligence, is the biggest so far. It is the first time that the event is being held in a developing country.
Organisers are expecting thousands of people to attend, including government officials, company representatives, activists and students.
When big crowds reached for the five-day event, several entry points were closed as the crowd complained about the pathetic management by the New Delhi administration.
“If anybody has faced any problems yesterday, my apologies for that. We are working very hard,” IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.
“We definitely will make efforts to make it more smooth and make it more enjoyable for all of you,” he remarked.
“This is the biggest AI summit in the entire world. The response is phenomenal, the energy is palpable,” the minister added.
Several reporters and journalists didn’t face any crowding issue but the opening gates were completely blocked by the people at AI Summit.
On the other hand, the Indian National Congress (INC) party wrote on its X account, “ The Modi government has made a laughing stock of India globally, with regard to AI. In the ongoing AI summit, Chinese robots are being displayed as our own.
The Chinese media has mocked us. This is truly embarrassing for India. What is even more shameful is the fact that Modi’s minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, is indulging in the same falsehood, promoting China’s robots at the Indian summit.
The Modi Government has caused irreparable damage to the image of the country – they have reduced AI to a joke – a field in which we could be world leaders given our data power.”
Similarly, the Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi also criticises Modi’s government as he wrote on X, “Instead of leveraging India’s talent and data, the AI summit is a disorganised PR spectacle – Indian data up for sale, Chinese products showcased.”
