The government has announced school holidays across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) until March 31 as a precautionary and administrative step, according to details on Wednesday.
The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has also announced that all academic activities and classes will move to online mode from March 16, 2026.
The university administration said that the schedule and method for online classes will be decided by department heads in consultation with their deans.
Students have been advised to stay in contact with their departments for updates about class timings and the online platforms that will be used for teaching.
Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday announced an additional weekly holiday on Friday.
This announcement was made as a part of new energy conservation and austerity measures introduced in response to the current regional situation.
Under the plan, government offices will operate four days a week, with Friday added as a weekly holiday for the next two months.
Authorities say the step is aimed at reducing fuel consumption and easing pressure on energy resources.
The government has also directed that 50 per cent of staff in both public and private sectors should work from home, except for essential services.
Banks, however, will continue operating under their existing schedule.
Govt announces holiday on Jumat-ul-Wida
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Wida, falling on March 19, Provincial Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the minister, the provincial administration has decided to announce a public holiday for the ease of the citizens.
So they can observe religious activities and take part in prayers on the last Friday of the month of Ramzan.
Nasir Hussain Shah also came out with the revelation that a major road of Karachi will be named after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
However, he clarified that there would be no permission given for a rally on Shahrah-e-Faisal on Jumat-ul-Wida because of traffic management and security.
