Ali Tareen Threatens PSL With Legal Action After No Response From PCB

Ali Tareen part ways with Multan Sultans

LAHORE: Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen, again goes public with his complains, threatened the Pakistan Super League (PSL) administration with legal notice over no response to his email, letters.

The Multan sultan owner took to X, saying that “since the PCB will not communicate with us, here is an update we can share ourselves.”

Tareen added that “Over the past month we have sent multiple emails to the PSL management, asking for our valuation and renewal letter (which every other team has already received). But there has been no response. No response to our legal letter, no response to our emails, no response to my letter to the Chairman.”

“Even other franchise reps have asked why Multan is not being included in the valuation and renewal process. No response. For those asking why this is not being handled behind closed doors, it is simply because the PSL Management refuse to engage with us,” he said.

Ali Tareen warned that “If this ghosting continues we will have no choice but to take legal action. Which is the absolute last thing we want to do.”

The Multan Sultan owner said that “This entire situation is so unnecessary and could have easily been solved over tea and biscuits. But fragile egos make simple things difficult. Let’s hope better sense prevails, but it is not looking likely…”

Ali Tareen vs PSL

It is pertinent to mention here that following the viral notice-tearing episode, Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen formally wrote to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi.

In response to the PCB legal notice, the Multan Sultans owner, Ali posted a video on his X account, tearing the notice and lashing out at the officials. The video, however, went viral on social media.

Tareen criticised the board’s approach, saying, “It seems you are so used to surrounding yourself with ‘yes-men’ that you cannot tolerate criticism.”

He further added, “I never received a call, message, or invitation to sit and discuss matters in the office. Instead, I received a legal notice directly.”

He added, “If you think this threat will make me stay quiet, it will not. I love this league, it belongs to the fans, not the handful of people running it.”

Tareen expressed willingness to work with the PCB to resolve issues, saying, “If you want us to work together, we can make this league the top league in the world.”

“I apologise… that I want the PSL to be better,” he said, highlighting his frustration with the board’s handling of criticism

He ended the video by tearing up the notice.

Later, Ali Tareen approached PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi directly, and shared the a plan to improve the quality of Pakistan Super League (PCL).

Tareen said in his post on X, “Even though tearing the notice was quite satisfying, it’s time to move forward. In recognition of the PSL as a national asset, we’re putting grievances aside and aiming for a fresh relationship with the board. One built on transparency, cooperation and trust. To that end, I’ve written to the PCB Chairman, proposing four key reforms to strengthen how the PSL is managed.”

PCB Suspend Multan Sultans’ PSL Contract

Previously, the PCB suspended the PSL franchise, Multan Sultans, after a formal termination notice was issued over an alleged breach of contract.

According to reports from private media outlets citing sources, the decision was made after Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen publicly criticised PCB policies, which allegedly prompted disciplinary action from the board.

Sources said the franchise has received a suspension notice and a termination warning for allegedly violating contractual terms.

The move reportedly follows concerns within the PCB over the franchise’s compliance with league regulations.
