The recent controversy surrounding TikToker Alina Amir has once again sparked a wider debate about online harassment, deepfake content and the growing misuse of artificial intelligence on social media.

The issue gained traction after an allegedly leaked video, linked to Alina Amir, began circulating online and quickly went viral. The clip triggered intense discussion across social media platforms, with users divided over its authenticity. Soon after, Alina Amir publicly clarified that she was not the woman in the video and claimed it was created using AI technology. Despite her clarification, the video continued to spread, with many users questioning her statement.

As the debate intensified, another TikToker, Samiya Hijab, released a video defending Alina Amir. In her statement, Samiya said Alina had been unfairly dragged into a controversy and that the situation appeared to be an attempt to defame her. She warned that while Alina’s family may understand AI and deepfake technology, the same may not be true for families from less privileged backgrounds.

Samiya highlighted a serious concern, saying that if such a video targeted an unknown woman from a village, whose parents were not aware of modern technology, the consequences could be devastating. She said such families might believe the video to be real, putting the woman at risk of social pressure, emotional harm and even violence. According to her, the ease with which women are dragged into such controversies is deeply troubling.

However, Samiya Hijab’s defence of Alina Amir did not sit well with many social media users. Critics were quick to respond with comments such as “look who is talking”, referring to Samiya’s own past controversies involving leaked videos. Several users accused her of defending Alina merely to stay relevant and attract views.

Some social media users also claimed that while Alina Amir’s video might be fake, Samiya Hijab’s leaked videos were real. These claims have further fuelled the online backlash. It is worth noting that Samiya Hijab has remained in the public eye for a long time due to earlier viral moments, including her “rishta pakka” phrase and bold dance videos.

Meanwhile, Alina Amir, often referred to online as the “Sarsarahat girl”, has reportedly sought help from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and relevant authorities. She has asked for action against those she says are spreading false content and damaging her reputation.

Despite her clarification, many social media users continue to believe the alleged videos are real, highlighting the lasting impact of online misinformation and the challenges victims face even after speaking out.
