Anti-Corruption Sindh has confirmed the arrest of ex-BRT Project Director Zameer Abbasi, who was taken into custody in Lahore in connection with the Yellow Line corruption case, according to media reports.
The official was taken into custody during an ongoing investigation, with authorities stating that further legal proceedings will be conducted in Karachi. According to the Chairman of Anti-Corruption Sindh, the arrested official has been transferred to Karachi, where legal proceedings will be initiated.
Meanwhile, Zameer Abbasi’s father has filed a missing persons report in Lahore, claiming that his son was abducted on June 12. He stated in his complaint that armed men forcibly took his son at gunpoint and transported him in vehicles.
According to details, the alleged abduction of the senior Karachi BRT Project Director came to light in Lahore, and a formal case has been registered under kidnapping charges at Defence-C Police Station, Lahore. The case was registered on the complaint of the officer’s father, Muhammad Panah, son of Badal Khan.
It is worth mentioning here that the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Sindh had registered a case against former Karachi Mobility Project (KMP) Director Zameer Abbasi on June 10 in Karachi’s District South. The FIR accused Abbasi of exceeding his authority by approving an advance payment of Rs8.5 billion to contractors working on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project without securing the mandatory bank guarantees.
Meanwhile, a separate development emerged on Monday when Abbasi’s father filed a missing person report in Lahore, alleging that his son had been forcibly taken away on June 12 and had remained untraceable since then.
The Yellow Line BRT project is designed to link Dawood Chowrangi in Quaidabad with Numaish in Karachi. The corridor will operate entirely on environmentally friendly electric buses, aiming to improve urban mobility while reducing carbon emissions.
