The protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), are against the removal of around 130 million names from India’s voter lists, a move that benefited the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in recent state elections.
Opposition parties and supporters of the youth movement have staged protests throughout the month, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
On Saturday, CJP protesters also took to the streets of London to protest against Modi.

Several CJP leaders have reportedly been detained or jailed for participating in protests. Founder Abhijeet Dipke was detained ahead of a demonstration and was subsequently released by a court.
The CJP has previously campaigned against irregularities in India’s medical entrance examination system, including the NEET paper leak controversy. Its earlier campaign reportedly led to the education minister’s resignation.
