Govt unveils AI app to tackle illegal immigration

Web desk: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday announced the launch of an artificial intelligence based app as a pilot project to stop illegal immigration and identify fake travel documents.

He made the announcement while co-chairing a meeting with Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain.

Both officials reviewed plans for “immigration reforms” aimed at helping citizens and improving Pakistan’s international image.

“Through this AI app, authorities will be able to determine in advance who is eligible to travel and who is not,” Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated. 

He added that the government would show zero tolerance toward fake visas, agent mafias. And anyone attempting to travel abroad through illegal means.

During the meeting, it was also decided to take strict action against people using forged documents. And to launch a crackdown on the networks involved in producing fake visas.

The ministers instructed that final recommendations for the reform package be submitted within a week.

Naqvi said the system for issuing Protectors (emigration clearances for Pakistanis working abroad) would be made more secure. And broader immigration reforms would be introduced to make travel easier for passengers.

He added that once the passports of deported individuals are cancelled. The government would ensure they cannot obtain a visa again.

“The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis will extend full cooperation to the Ministry of Interior in improving the protector and immigration systems,” Federal Minister Salik Hussain said.

The interior minister also announced that a standard international driving licence would soon be issued by the National Police Bureau.

He said the government was in contact with other countries to improve the ranking of the Pakistani passport. And warned that those trying to travel illegally were harming the country’s reputation.

“The purpose of immigration reforms is to provide convenience to the public and improve the global image,” he said.

Federal Minister Salik Hussain stressed the importance of genuine documentation for people going abroad on labour visas.

He assured that the Overseas Pakistanis Ministry would fully cooperate in improving the Protector and immigration systems.
