Ariana Grande is set to step away from the spotlight after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine Tour, marking a major pause in one of pop music’s busiest years. The singer’s team says the decision is aimed at giving her a well earned break following months of intense public attention and speculation surrounding her health and appearance.
According to People, Grande plans to reduce public appearances once her tour ends in London on September 1. The move also means she will no longer star in the planned 2027 London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, where she had been due to reunite with her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Her representatives said Grande wants to finish the tour “healthily and happily” before taking time away from public facing work, adding that constant scrutiny has taken a personal toll despite her enjoying every moment with fans on the road.
The announcement follows the release of Petal, Grande’s eighth studio album, and its title track music video, which has fuelled fresh online debate. In the video, Grande portrays a performer who faces relentless criticism over her appearance before ultimately fighting back against harsh judgement, a storyline many fans believe reflects the pressure she has faced in real life.
Supporters quickly rallied behind the singer, with #WeLoveYouAriana trending across social media as fans urged others to stop speculating about her health.
The conversation widened further after actress Jameela Jamil defended her controversial comments about Grande’s appearance. Responding to criticism on Instagram, Jamil said her remarks were never meant to attack the singer personally but to raise concerns about unrealistic beauty standards and their influence on young people.
Drawing on her own experience with anorexia, Jamil said she understands how serious eating disorders can become and stressed that she hopes Grande is healthy. She argued that discussions about harmful beauty ideals should not be ignored simply because they involve famous people.
Grande’s break comes amid several career changes. She has also withdrawn from the upcoming season of American Horror Story because of scheduling conflicts linked to her 41 date world tour.
Despite stepping away from public life for now, Grande’s team said she remains excited to support future creative projects from behind the scenes and is grateful for the overwhelming support she continues to receive from fans around the world.
