The 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, concluded with a colourful closing ceremony, with China securing the top spot on the medal table and host nation Japan finishing second. China delivered a dominant performance, winning a total of 341 medals, including 169 gold, to finish at the top of the medal standings.
Host nation Japan secured second place with 63 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze medals, while South Korea finished third with 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze medals. Pakistan also put in a notable performance at the Asian Games, with the national contingent winning a total of 10 medals, comprising two silver and eight bronze medals. With 10 medals, Pakistan finished 29th on the overall medal table.
China strengthened its dominance at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, with its athletes claiming several more gold medals across different events. China won both the men’s and women’s team golf titles. The men’s victory was particularly significant as it gave China its 166th gold medal of the Games, surpassing the previous record of 165 golds won by the country at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
Li Wenqi added another gold medal for China by winning the women’s windsurfing event, while Guo Pu secured the B-Girls breaking title. Defending champion Liu Qingyi finished with the bronze medal.
China also emerged victorious in the group all-around competition as rhythmic gymnastics made its debut at the Asian Games. Host nation Japan finished second, while Kazakhstan claimed the bronze medal.
In the individual all-around event, Uzbekistan’s Takhmina Ikromova successfully defended her Asian Games title. China’s Wang Qi won silver, while her compatriot Wang Zilu took bronze. Speaking after her victory, Ikromova said she was pleased with her performance across all four routines despite making a few minor mistakes. She said she was happy to complete all four routines successfully and was delighted that her performance was enough to secure her second Asian Games gold medal.
