Audi has prepared to bring back the A2 name for a new entry-level electric car. The official unveiling is expected before the end of 2026. The model is being developed as a modern successor to the original A2 hatchback that first appeared in 2000. Sales are expected to begin in early 2027, according to industry sources.
Launch in Pakistan
The car is set to become Audi’s most affordable electric vehicle to date. While the initial focus will be on Europe and other major markets, there has been no confirmation of a launch in Pakistan. Audi currently does not sell any fully electric models locally.
However, if the new A2 meets its pricing targets, it could become a realistic option for Pakistan in the longer term, either through official channels or private imports, as the Pakistani natives are deeply interested in the electric vehicle industry.
Entry-level electric startup
The new A2 is expected to replace both the Audi A1 hatchback and the Q2 compact SUV, both of which are scheduled to end production in 2026. As per the media reports, prices will start at around 30,000 pounds, placing the car below the Q4 e-tron in Audi’s electric line-up. This would make it the brand’s cheapest EV, aimed at buyers looking for a smaller and more accessible electric Audi.
The A2 will adopt a crossover-style shape with a single-box profile, a short bonnet, and a split rear window. The design appears to take clear inspiration from the original A2, while offering a more modern and practical layout.
Inside Audi, the model is seen as filling a gap left by cars such as the BMW i3, focusing on space efficiency and everyday usability rather than traditional hatchback styling.
Platform and range
The electric A2 was originally planned to use Volkswagen Group’s next-generation SSP platform, but delays have led Audi to switch to the existing MEB architecture. This is the same platform used by the Volkswagen ID 3.
On that setup, battery options typically range from 58kWh to 79kWh, with power outputs between 168 and 282 horsepower. Due to its extra aerodynamic shape, the A2 could offer a longer driving range than the ID 3, which currently reaches up to 370 miles in its longest-range version.
