Aurat March Islamabad calls for protest against the arrests of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chattha

Aurat March Islamabad, a socialist feminist organisation, has called for a joint protest with Defence of Human Rights on January 23 at 4 PM, against the recent arrests of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha.

The feminist movement has further called upon members of civil society, lawyers, students and citizens of Islamabad to join the protest.

Arrests on Friday

Lawyer and activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha were arrested on Friday while traveling to the district courts for the controversial tweets case.

Shireen Mazari, former minister and mother of Imaan Mazari, made a post on X regarding the recent arrests. In the post, she alleged both Imaan Mazari and her husband had been arrested and sent to unknown locations in separate cars.

She claimed further that no first information report (FIR) was presented by the police due to which the bar association could not offer any assistance.

During a press conference, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association’s Secretary Manzoor Ahmed Jajja said that both Imaan Mazari and her husband will appear before the trial court on Friday.

It was revealed that the couple had been escaping arrests while taking refuge in the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) President Wajid Ali Gilani’s office for two consecutive nights.
