Why Australia rested key fast bowlers for white-ball series against Pakistan?

Australia series training camp

The reason behind the absence of Australia’s pace attack from the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh has come to light.

According to details, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said that the absence of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc from the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh is being misunderstood.

The head coach said that the three fast bowlers are being carefully managed in view of the busy schedule ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

The absence of the three star bowlers from Australia’s squad surprised fans even more because they are currently playing in the Indian Premier League.

However, McDonald clarified that the decision was not made by the players themselves, but in consultation with the medical and fitness staff.

He said that by 2027, Australia has to play 20 Test matches, 9 ODIs, and 5 T20 internationals across four continents, therefore it is necessary to balance the workload of the senior fast bowlers.

According to the coach, the players want to play, but the team management is making decisions while keeping their fitness and long-term careers in mind.

McDonald further said that the current break is extremely important for the physical recovery of all three bowlers and for preparation for red-ball cricket so that they can remain fully fit for future major tournaments.
