Pakistan batter Azan Awais produced a memorable performance on the third day of the first Test, scoring a century on his Test debut against the Bangladesh national cricket team.
Azan Awais became the 14th Pakistani batter to score a hundred on debut. The right-hander reached the milestone off 153 balls, striking 14 boundaries before being dismissed for 103.
Another debutant, Abdullah Fazal, also impressed with the bat, bringing up a half-century in his maiden Test appearance. At the time of reporting, Abdullah Fazal was unbeaten on 50 off 102 deliveries.
Azan Awais, who resumed on 84, and Abdullah Fazal, who started the day on 37, continued batting. Azan later completed his century on debut before being dismissed for 103 during the first session.
Pakistan then lost their third wicket at 226 when captain Shan Masood was dismissed for 9 runs. The fourth wicket fell at 227 in the very next over when Saud Shakeel was dismissed for a duck.
Abdullah Fazal was later dismissed for 60 runs with Pakistan’s total at 230, leaving the team five wickets down. Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 413 runs in their first innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 101, Mominul Haque made 91, and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 71 runs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas took five wickets, while Shaheen Afridi claimed three. Noman Ali and Hasan Ali picked up one wicket each.
Later, Pakistan was bowled out for 386 in their first innings on Day 3 of the opening Test against the Bangladesh national cricket team, handing the hosts a slender 27-run lead in Dhaka. The day’s play ended early because of bad light, with Bangladesh reaching 7 without loss in their second innings.
Despite Pakistan’s middle-order collapse, debutant opener Azan Awais emerged as the standout performer with a brilliant maiden Test century. Pakistan resumed the day at 179 for 1, with Azan continuing his impressive innings before being dismissed for 103 runs as the team score reached 210.
Following his dismissal, Pakistan’s batting line-up suffered a collapse. Captain Shan Masood was dismissed for 9 runs at 226, while Saud Shakeel fell for a duck at 227. Abdullah Fazal was dismissed for 60 runs, leaving Pakistan at 230 for 5.
After the collapse, Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the innings with a 119-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Rizwan was dismissed for 59 runs with Pakistan’s score at 349.
The play was interrupted for a lengthy period due to rain. When the match resumed, Salman Ali Agha was dismissed for 58 runs with the total at 353. Later, Shaheen Afridi scored 13 runs, Noman Ali made 2, and Hasan Ali added 6 runs. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout bowler, taking 5 wickets for 102 runs.
