Azma Bokhari says Punjab govt always upholds democratic values

The Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari on Saturday said that the current government has always upheld both democratic values and parliamentary traditions.

She added that when her party was on the opposition end, its members were not even allowed to speak for more than a few minutes.

Now the present government has shown patience and maturity by allowing the opposition to speak openly and freely in the Punjab Assembly, the Punjab Minister said.

Azma Bokhari called respect for the Chair of the Speaker an important parliamentary principle. She added that the Chair’s conduct should not be challenged.

In view of the situation, she requested the opposition to set aside their criticism and act to serve the public instead.

She mentioned that if the opposition had produced even a single public welfare initiative of value during its tenure, it would have made a difference.

However, they chose to engage in political point-scoring instead, the Minister added.

While talking about serving the public, Azma Bokhari said that Allah trusts those with good deed whom He wills and leaves others to follow their own decisions.

She said that it is a blessing to be able to serve the public and the people who commit themselves to negativity and chaos in politics have made that choice for themselves.

Azma Bokhari also stated that measures had been taken to provide security for Muharram processions and religious gatherings.

These were carried out under the special instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

She also honoured authorities such as district administrations, police, religious scholars and ministers who fulfilled their duties during Muharram.
