Punjab Information Minister, Azma Bukhari, has urged public and political leaders to keep the Basant event free from politics. She stressed that cultural events should remain free from political influence.
Azma Bukhari said while speaking to a private media channel that the cultural festivals in Pakistan should not be given a political colour.
She further explained that only registered vendors and kite sellers would be allowed to sell kites and strings during Basant. She added that a ban has been imposed on songs played on stage during Basant, but this restriction should not be associated with the festival itself.
Azma Bukhari also said, while responding to criticism, that the government has no issue even if the number 804 is written on a slipper. There are reports that kites with the written 804 have high sales.
