Govt issues warning over use of antibiotic ‘Azomax 250mg’

The government of Punjab has issued an alert for not using the antibiotic named ‘Azomax 250mg’.

As per the notification released by the Punjab government on July 8, the Drug Testing Laboratory, Punjab, declared the said antibiotic as ‘spurious’.

The Provincial Quality Control Board, Punjab, promptly issued an alert to warn the medical store owners, pharmacists, and public in this regard.

According to the Directorate of Drugs Control, a specific batch of Azomax 250mg has been identified as counterfeit during an action against fake medicines.

The department said Batch No. H5332, with an expiry date of July 2027, has been declared counterfeit.

Officials said the medicine carries the name of AGP Limited, but the company has confirmed that the batch is not part of its genuine products.

The Directorate of Drugs Control has instructed pharmacies, medical stores, distributors and other healthcare facilities to immediately stop the sale and distribution of the affected batch. They have also been directed to isolate any remaining stock and inform the relevant drug inspector.

The Health department has advised the public not to use the medicine from the affected batch and to purchase medicines only from authorised pharmacies and licensed medical stores.

It also urged anyone who experiences an adverse reaction after using the medicine to report it immediately to the Punjab Pharmacovigilance Centre so that appropriate action can be taken.
