Babar Azam, Pakistan’s star batsman, created another historic moment while batting for the Pakistan national cricket team in the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, hit a very big milestone of becoming the first player to score 9000 international runs in the 2020s.

Babar delivered a well-drafted and aggressive 68 off 84 balls that included 10 boundaries. It was a crucial knock for Pakistan.

His total of international runs rose to 9,060 in 212 matches with this innings, showcasing his outstanding consistency in all three formats of the game.

The right-hander has also scored 67 half centuries and 17 centuries during this span at an impressive average of 42.53.

Joe Root of England takes second place on the list with 8,305 runs in 120 matches and Pakistan wicket keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan is third with 7,779 runs in 119 matches.

Indian great Virat Kohli is also the sixth best scorer for the decade, with Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka also in the top ten list.

Babar also equalled another huge World Test Championship record in that innings. It also marked his 20th half-century in World Championship history, tying him with Australian batsman Steve Smith and England’s Zak Crawley for third on the list.

He is just behind only Joe Root (22 fifties) and Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne (24).

Despite Babar’s milestone knock, Bangladesh strengthened their grip on the second Test, ending day two on 110-3 in their second innings with an overall lead of 156 runs.
