Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes rather than dwelling on them, saying the team is undergoing a transition with seven to eight young players in the squad.

Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi, Babar said he always maintains a positive mindset and focuses on delivering his best as a senior player. He added that the squad members have recently featured in first-class cricket and are in good form.

Responding to questions about the inclusion of several young players in the Test team, Babar said the decision to give opportunities to emerging talent was made during Pakistan’s tour of England. He clarified that the squad was selected by the selectors and the head coach.

The star batter acknowledged that his recent performances have not met expectations, adding that he relies on consistent practice and hard work to improve his game. “No one is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. I reflect on my mistakes and believe that the more I play, the more I will improve,” he said.

Babar noted that cricket performances naturally fluctuate, with players going through both good and difficult periods. He added that making mistakes does not mean a player will repeat them every time.

Regarding the England tour, he said the developments were already in the public domain, and there was no need to discuss every detail. He added that he communicates with the selectors whenever necessary but remains focused on his responsibilities.

Babar said every series is important to him and that he always aims to lead Pakistan to victory in every match. Meanwhile, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas expressed hope of taking five wickets against Sri Lanka, saying he was aware that fans were expecting a strong performance from him.

Abbas added that, as a senior player, he shares his experience with younger teammates by offering them guidance and advice. He also praised the young players for their confidence and belief in their abilities.
