Tourists advised to use Silk Road
According to a police spokesperson, tourists and travellers heading to Gilgit in extreme cold have been advised to use the alternate Silk Road route.
Mansehra Police have temporarily removed check posts from Gatidas, Jhalkhad, and Besar due to severe weather conditions.
All hotels and restaurants from Mansehra Barwai to Babusar Top have been closed. However, tourists can still travel from Naran to Barwai, according to the reports.
Babusar Road closed after heavy snowfall
The Babusar Road, which connects Gilgit-Baltistan with the rest of the country via Naran Jhalkad, has been closed for all kinds of traffic after heavy snowfall hit the area on Tuesday night.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Mansehra Shafiullah Gandapur, the road is blocked, but efforts are underway to reopen it using heavy machinery.
The DPO has urged tourists and travellers heading towards Gilgit-Baltistan and Naran Kaghan to avoid using the Babusar route until it is cleared.
He advised the tourists to take the Karakoram Highway for safe travel.
Heavy snowfall in the upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday also led to the closure of several major and link roads. Many visitors rushed to Naran to enjoy the season’s first snowfall.
Earlier, Mansehra Police carried out a rescue operation late Tuesday night, safely shifting all stranded tourists to secure locations.
Following the DPO’s directions, police teams cleared traffic, removed about 35 vehicles trapped in snow, and rescued over 150 tourists and locals.
DPO Gandapur said police remain alert to assist citizens and tourists during severe weather.
He also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel due to difficult road conditions. The weather in Naran Kaghan Valley is now clear, and traffic is moving smoothly.
