Bacha Khan University expelled four students for singing the Indian national anthem on campus and sharing the video on social media, officials said.
The incident took place two days ago. The students, who study in the pharmacy department, sang the anthem and raised slogans inside the university.
Later, they uploaded the video online, which led to a strong reaction from the university administration.
The university held its 73rd disciplinary committee meeting and decided to expel the four students immediately.
According to an official notification, the university also cancelled their hostel accommodation.
The notification said the students violated university and hostel rules by raising anti-state slogans on campus. It added that they deliberately tried to create unrest and harm national unity.
The university also stated that the students committed an illegal act by recording the video and sharing it on social media.
“The disciplinary committee’s recommendations were approved by the competent authorities, resulting in the expulsion of the students and the cancellation of their hostel seats,” the notice said.
The university ordered the expelled students to vacate their hostel rooms immediately.
