Baisakhi Mela is a lively annual Punjabi harvest event celebrated in both Indian and Pakistani Punjab on April 13 and 14. According to the social media reports, more than 2800 Sikh Yatris reached Lahore to celebrate Baisakhi Mela.
The provincial minister and member of the Punjab Assembly welcomed Sikh Yatris at the Wagah Border. The reports also confirmed that the Sikh Yatris of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi reached Lahore to celebrate Baisakhi Mela.
How do Sikhs Yatris celebrate Baisakhi Mela?
Baisakhi is a well-known Punjabi event, and the Sikh community celebrates it by conducting large gatherings at their sacred places. Sikh Yatris from India gathered in Gurdwara Punja Sahib, which is located in Attock’s district of Punjab.
Other than that, Indian Sikh Yatris visited Gurdwara Nankana Sahib to celebrate the event.
To celebrate the event, they pray in their sacred Gurdwaras and take a bath in the ponds of Gurdwaras.
To celebrate the Baisakhi Mela, the Indian Sikh Yatris will also visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal.
On this occasion, Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi, Saad Ahmed Warraich, extended heartfelt congratulations to the pilgrims and stated that the visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to promoting interfaith and intercultural harmony.
Why is Baisakhi Mela important for the Sikh Yatris?
Baisakhi Mela is important for the Sikh Community as it marks the birth of their Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
Several Sikh Yatris on social media confirmed that they feel comfortable when they visit Pakistan to celebrate Baisakhi Mela. One of the female Sikh Yatris said that Pakistan is a beautiful country of kind people. She also urged other Sikh Yatris to visit Pakistan in 2027.
