The Balochistan government, in a meeting observed on Tuesday, has decided to establish a modern Safe City Authority aimed at improving security and public services across the province.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on February 24, 2026.

Officials reviewed progress on ongoing Safe City projects and discussed the next steps for expanding the system.

According to a briefing given at the meeting, surveillance cameras will be installed in major cities across Balochistan as part of the initiative.

The system is intended to use updated technology to support law enforcement and city management.

Focus on speed and resources

Sarfraz Bugti directed officials to remove administrative, technical and financial obstacles that could delay the project.

CM Bugti called for faster implementation and said the provincial government would provide the necessary funds and technical support on a priority basis.

He said that once completed, Balochistan would become the second province after Punjab to introduce a modern Safe City system. He described the move as an important step for the province.

Expected impact on public services

Officials say the Safe City project is designed to help reduce crime and improve traffic management.

The system is also expected to shorten emergency response times and improve coordination between police and other law enforcement agencies.

Safe City systems typically rely on networks of surveillance cameras linked to central monitoring centres.

Supporters argue that such systems can help authorities respond more quickly to incidents.

The government has not yet announced a timeline for full implementation.

Further details about the structure and legal framework of the proposed Safe City Authority are expected in the coming months.
