Bangladesh reach 152/3, strengthen position in first test against Pakistan

The Bangladesh national cricket team strengthened their position against the Pakistan national cricket team on the fourth day of the opening Test in Dhaka, reaching 152 for 3 in their second innings, with their lead extending to 179 runs at the time of filing this report.

Resuming the day at 7 without loss, Bangladesh suffered two early setbacks as Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed by Mohammad Abbas for 5, while Shadman Islam fell to Hasan Ali after scoring 10.

Despite the early wickets, the hosts continued to build their advantage as the match moved into a crucial phase on Day 4.

Earlier, in reply to Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 413, the entire Pakistan national cricket team side was bowled out for 386 on the third day, handing the hosts a first-innings lead of 27 runs.

The highlight of the third day was a brilliant century by debutant Azan Owais and a half-century from Abdullah Fazal. The two batters scored 103 and 60 runs, respectively.

Among the other notable contributors, Mohammad Rizwan made 59, Salman Ali Agha scored 58, while Imam-ul-Haq added 45 runs. However, captain Shan Masood once again failed to impress, managing only 9 runs, while vice-captain Saud Shakeel was dismissed for a duck. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets.

Bangladesh, who began their second innings on 7 without loss with a lead of 34 runs, lost their first two wickets early in the innings. Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for 5 by Mohammad Abbas, while Shadman Islam was removed for 10 by Hasan Ali.

However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque then steadied the innings with a strong resistance against the Pakistani bowling attack.

The duo added 105 runs for the third wicket. After the team total reached 128, Mominul Haque was dismissed by Hasan Ali for 56 runs. Following that, the Pakistani bowlers were unable to take any further wickets for the remainder of the day. At stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh reached 152 for 3, extending their overall lead to 173 runs over the Pakistan national cricket team.
