UK court jails man after Barron Trump reports assault

A British court has given a Russian man a four-year prison sentence after his attack on a woman was witnessed remotely by Barron Trump, the youngest boy of the US president Donald Trump.

The incident happened in London in January last year when 20-year old Barron Trump happened to be on video call with a female friend.

During the call he says he witnessed her being physically attacked and immediately called authorities from the United States.

Police later arrested 22-year-old Matvei Rumiantsev who had been in an on-and-off relationship with the victim for several months.

The case was heard at Snaresbrook Crown Court and Judge Joel Bennathan emphasised the part played by Barron Trump in making an early call to emergency services.

According to the court, the attacker at one point held the phone and made videos of the victim during the assault in what the judge called an act intended to humiliate her.

Despite being overseas, Barron Trump did the responsible thing and alerted the British emergency services and relayed what he had seen in real time.

The victim also managed to contact the police after the incident. She had several injuries, such as bruising to her chin, arm and wrist, and scratches and hair loss as a result of the attack.

Rumiantsev was found guilty in January of assault and perversion of the course of justice.

However, he was also found guilty of more serious charges, including rape and deliberate strangulation.

He got two separate two-year prison terms for the offences, to be served one after the other, totalling four years in prison.

The case emphasises the importance of swift action even from overseas and its ability to play a vital role in the prevention of further damage and accountability.
