The sale of kites and kite strings for Basant will begin in Lahore from today, February 1, 2026.
According to the reports so far, 2,246 traders have been allowed to sell kites and string in the city.

According to the Lahore district administration, a total of 2,504 applications were received for registration.
Out of these, ninety five applications were rejected. Additionally, the registration process of 163 traders is still underway.
The administration said the registration process for kite and string traders will continue until February 8.
Basant holiday 2026
Meanwhile, due to Basant preparations and related measures, the holiday of Lahore’s administrative officers scheduled for today has also been cancelled.
Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan said that all assistant commissioners and relevant departments will remain in the field on the holiday.
She also added that all administrative officers will ensure the enforcement of Basant rules across the city.
The commissioner added that awareness campaigns and safety roads will continue through Basant camps in the city.
Further, she directed officials to guide citizens and seek public cooperation to ensure a safe Basant.
Basant 2026: Lahore buses turn festive
Preparations are underway as Basant, the traditional festival of kites and springtime celebrations, returns to Lahore.
Speedo and Green Electric buses have been decorated for the festival.
Free travel will be available on these buses, as well as on the Metro and Orange Line, from February 6 to 8.
Basant will only be allowed in Lahore this year.
Punjab Transport Minister said people can travel for free on all public transport during Basant.
Traders can bring kite-flying equipment from outside Lahore and Punjab. But metal strings and banned chemicals will not be allowed.
The district administration has also ordered that kites must not show religious, political, personal, or national flag symbols.
Authorities will strictly enforce these rules to ensure safety.
