Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem said that 10,000 security personnel have been deployed across Lahore to ensure security and maintain law and order during Basant celebrations, on Thursday.
Talking to the media after reviewing security arrangements ahead of Basant 2026, the IG said that the city is being monitored through drones and surveillance cameras.
He added that hidden surveillance is also in place, and strict action will be taken against anyone violating the law.
“I request everyone not to violate the law,” he said. “There will be such evidence that it will be difficult to escape,” IG Punjab warned.
“There is a proper law, extensive advertisements have been issued, and it has been explained clearly. I, you, and everyone must follow it,” the IG Punjab added.
Basant 2026: Lahore traffic plan
Regarding traffic management, IG Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem said Lahore has been divided into three major zones, especially in areas expected to witness heavy rush.
“Extensive arrangements have been made, and security measures have been implemented according to the needs of each area,” he said.
He further urged the citizens to follow the law and stick to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“All rules have been clearly announced and widely publicised. Everyone must follow them for their own safety,” he added.

CM Maryam Nawaz Visits Liberty Chowk
Separately, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz visited Liberty Chowk to review arrangements, on Thursday.
The CM directed that all motorcycle riders must install safety rods during Basant.
She further clarified that there is no ban on riding motorcycles during Basant. However, motorcycles without safety rods will be stopped.
“These safety measures are for your own protection,” she said.
Additionally, citizens appreciated the Punjab government’s initiatives during the visit. They praised the CM’s efforts to ensure public safety during the festivities.
The Basant 2026 festival is to begin on February 6, 2026. It is expected to be carried out over three days, ending on February 8.
