Basant festival 2026 is at its peak as Lahoris are enjoying the event after 25 years. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called a shutter-down strike today in solidarity with the PTI founder Imran Khan. But no one is bothering about it, especially in Lahore, as it is the third and last day of Basant announced by the Punjab government and people of Lahore are just focusing on it right now.
Several reports of open shops and routine businesses are coming from different cities in Pakistan. People of Pakistan just rejected the PTI’s call to shutter-down strike and protest for an individual who is in jail for his wrongdoings.
On the other hand, in the capital of Punjab, people are enjoying Basant on their rooftops. Several Pakistani citizens in video messages can be seen saying that they are poor people and they can’t afford to close their shops and businesses for an individual on PTI’s call.
Several people from Lahore in different media reports said that Basant 2026 is a priority for them, and they just don’t want to be a part of any protest today.
Earlier, the Punjab government had announced a three-day Basant celebration last week. It’s the last of Basant 2026, and people are praising Punjab government and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, for arranging this event after a very long time.
Shafi Jan criticising PTI
Shafi Jan, a senior PTI leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, openly criticised his party’s strikes and protest politics, challenging the leadership.
Speaking at a meeting with PTI workers, he highlighted the growing differences within the party.
He told the party’s senior leaders, “Do not teach us from under the blanket on social media by tweeting where to strike.”
