Basant celebrations in Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab government has announced free transport in Lahore on account of basant celebrations.

The Punjab government held an important meeting in Lahore on Basant celebrations.

Information Minister Azma Bukhari said free transport will be available for three days across the city on February 6, 7, and 8.

Information Minister Azma Bukhari said the move aims to facilitate the public adding that buses and rickshaws will run free during Basant days.

Azma Bukhari added that manufacturing of kites and strings will be allowed from December 30.
She said all activities will follow approved rules. Kites will carry QR codes, and manufacturers, string makers, and sellers will also be registered.

She underlined that the Punjab government would not allow any activity that puts lives at risk.

The Punjab government had allowed Basant celebrations only in Lahore for three days and nowhere else in the province.

Last week, the Punjab government lifted the ban on Basant through the Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance 2025.

The festival had been banned since 2007 due to rising deaths and injuries caused by sharp strings, especially affecting motorcyclists and pillion riders, as well as celebratory gunfire.

Under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, this lively cultural festival is being revived responsibly, allowing Lahore to once again celebrate its cultural and traditional heritage.

The Information and Culture Department is also organising special Basant events, including music, food, kite flying, and a range of other activities.
