The Punjab provincial cabinet has approved a proposal to change the dates of the Basant festival in Lahore, with celebrations now scheduled for March 12, 13 and 14, 2027.

According to details, the provincial cabinet has approved the revised schedule for the festival following a proposal to change the previously announced dates.

Sources said the new dates for Basant celebrations in Lahore have been set for March 12, 13 and 14, 2027.

The Lahore deputy commissioner had forwarded a summary to the Punjab Home Department seeking a change in the festival schedule. The Home Department subsequently sent the proposal to the provincial cabinet for approval.

The Punjab cabinet has now approved the summary, clearing the way for Basant to be celebrated in Lahore on the revised dates.

Last month, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced good news for the people of Lahore, approving 10 days of Basant celebrations in the provincial capital.

It may be recalled that after a prolonged hiatus of 25 years, Basant was celebrated in Lahore from February 6 to 8 this year.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari said in a post on X that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had directed that a 10-day Basant festival be organised in Lahore to mark the arrival of the new year 2027.

According to the chief minister’s directions, Basant will be celebrated from January 29 to February 7, with a one-day break on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day.

Maryam Nawaz has directed the authorities to take greater measures for public safety and convenience than those implemented during the previous Basant celebrations. She said the 10-day festivities would help promote Punjab’s cultural heritage and Lahore’s centuries-old traditions around the world.

The chief minister also appealed to citizens to demonstrate the same sense of responsibility, duty and care for human lives that they showed during the previous Basant celebrations.
