Lahore is once again glowing in bright yellow as preparations for the Basant festival reach their peak across the city. Streets, markets, roads and homes are being decorated in vibrant Basanti colours, creating a festive mood that is hard to miss.

The Punjab government has announced Basant celebrations in Lahore from February 6 to February 8, and a wave of excitement is visible among residents. Families are preparing for kite flying, while many people from other cities and abroad are arriving in Lahore to take part in the celebrations and relive the city’s traditional festival.

The festive spirit has also brought a strong boost to the local food scene. Orders for traditional dishes have surged, and hotels and restaurants are reporting a sharp rise in bookings. Popular food outlets are receiving heavy orders for dishes such as kunna, hareesa, murgh chana, karahi, nihari, paye, haleem and halwa puri. For many food businesses, Basant is turning into one of the busiest and most profitable times of the year.

Experts say the three days of Basant are expected to generate business worth billions of rupees for Lahore’s food and hospitality industry. Hotel occupancy is rising, while catering services and street vendors are also preparing for high demand.

At the same time, authorities are working to ensure the festival remains safe for everyone. The Punjab government has ordered strict implementation of safety guidelines during the celebrations.

Chief Traffic Officer Lahore said several steps are being taken, including mandatory safety rods on motorcycles and drone surveillance in different parts of the city.

With colourful kites set to fill the skies and traditional food drawing crowds, Lahore is preparing to celebrate Basant with energy, caution and a strong sense of tradition.
