Befitting response given to Afghan Taliban aggression: PM

PM Shehbaz Afghan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistani Army, under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, gave a befitting response to aggression by the Afghan Taliban.

Addressing the federal cabinet here in Islamabad Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly reacted to the recent border attacks in Afghanistan, saying that Pakistan hosted millions of Afghan refugees for decades, but now terrorists are attacking Pakistan from there.

He said that terrorists have been given free rein in Afghanistan, in whose attacks security forces and civilians are being martyred.

The Prime Minister said that “our brothers and sisters are living in Afghanistan, but now the measure of patience has been exhausted.” According to him, Pakistan has always desired peace, but recent events have made the situation serious.

Shehbaz Sharif said that a temporary ceasefire has been agreed upon for 48 hours at the request of the Afghan government to keep the path of talks open.

He said that the Afghan request was made when the Kabul leadership was present in India.

According to the Prime Minister, “Our armed forces have given a befitting reply to the Afghan aggression. The forces under the leadership of the Field Marshal took effective action.” He clarified that the ceasefire should not be temporary but for permanent peace, and Afghanistan will have to take concrete steps for this.

” The ball is now Afghanistan’s court”, he said.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is fully committed to eliminating terrorism, and terrorism was completely eradicated before 2018. He accused the previous government of “re-establishing terrorists in the country after 2018, which destroyed peace.”

Talking about the situation in Gaza, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan had made sincere efforts for peace. “Innocent blood was being shed in Gaza, but now after the peace agreement, the massacre has stopped.

We are grateful to President Trump and all Islamic and Arab countries who played a role in establishing peace.”
