The Punjab government has announced a new financial assistance scheme to help people build and repair their homes amid rising inflation.

Speaking at an event in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government would provide Rs500,000 to eligible citizens to repair the roofs of their homes as part of its efforts to improve housing facilities across the province.

Addressing criticism that her government focuses only on Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said development projects are being carried out across Punjab. She said government schools across the province have been upgraded and announced that Nawaz Sharif Schools will be established in every tehsil.

The chief minister also highlighted a Rs25 billion school nutrition programme, under which 1.2 million students receive a carton of milk and biscuits every school day. She said the initiative has helped increase school enrolment.

Maryam Nawaz added that air-conditioned buses are now operating in cities across Punjab, while the government is expanding the WASA system throughout the province. She also said maintaining peace and improving public safety remain key priorities and stressed that children should learn artificial intelligence and machine learning to prepare for the future.
