Big relief announced for bike taxi riders in Sindh

The Sindh cabinet has approved tax relief for bike taxi riders like Bykea and Indrive to support low-income people and reduce their financial burden, according to the reports on Tuesday.

The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House.

According to the details, the cabinet reduced Sindh Sales Tax on motorcycle ride services to help riders and reduce ride cancellations.

The tax on net fares earned by riders using platforms like Bykea has been cut from 5 per cent to 2 per cent. Officials have also said that this step will have a financial impact of about Rs120 million each year.

In addition to this, projects worth over Rs30 billion related to development, welfare, and reforms were also approved during this meeting, according to an official statement.

Other important steps

The meeting also discussed important sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, governance reforms, and public relief across Sindh.

The cabinet also approved the appointment of Faisal Malik as Member Finance and Policy in the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority to make the authority fully operational.

Sindh appointment of vice chancellors

Changes were also approved in the process of appointing vice chancellors. The maximum age limit has been increased from 62 to 65 years.

Required experience has been raised from 15 to 20 years, and candidates must have at least 10 research publications recognised by the Higher Education Commission.

Sindh Protection of Human Rights Amendment Bill 2026

The cabinet also approved the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Amendment Bill 2026 and sent it to the provincial assembly.

The amendment adds business and human rights into the law and increases the term of the chairperson and members from four to five years. It also allows former judges of higher courts to become chairpersons.

Benazir Institute of Urology and Transplant

In addition, the cabinet approved setting up the Benazir Institute of Urology and Transplant under a new law. This step is expected to improve specialised transplant services in the region.
