Former US President Bill Clinton told lawmakers on Friday that he “saw nothing that gave me pause” while he was telling the House of Representatives Oversight Committee the period of time he associated with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, during his closed-door testimony on Friday.
In a prepared statement, Clinton stated that he would have never flown on the Epstein’s private plane, if he knew about the alleged sex trafficking of underage girls, and he was adamant that he would have reported any wrongdoing if he knew about it.
“We are only here because he hid it from everybody so well for so long,” said Clinton and added, “I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.
Clinton had admitted to flying on Epstein’s plane several times in the early 2000s after he had left office but before Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.
Recently published documentation by the Justice Department contains photos of Clinton with women whose faces were redacted.
His testimony followed that of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who testified to the panel a day earlier saying she does not remember ever meeting Epstein and had nothing to convey about his criminal record.
She also said lawmakers quizzed her about UFOs and a conspiracy theory that was popular in 2016 during the seven hour session.
Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has said neither of the Clintons are accused of wrongdoing but they should answer questions about Epstein’s relationships with their charitable foundation.
During a break Clinton said that Trump never showed any signs of being criminally involved with Epstein, Comer said to reporters.
Democrats also made renewed calls for Trump to testify, something Comer has rejected.
Trump, whose name is listed in files related to Epstein, has denied that he did anything wrong and stated that he severed ties with Epstein before the 2008 conviction.
Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 – while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
