Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rubina Khalid, shared good news with beneficiaries, saying that from the next quarter, payments will be made under a new “digital wallet” system.
She announced that the old payment system is being abolished to bring transparency to the programme, and from the next quarter, all payments will be made through a modern “digital wallet” system.
Speaking to the media at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, the chairperson expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred in Rahim Yar Khan.
She provided financial assistance of Rs1 million each to the families of the deceased women and Rs300,000 each to the injured women.
Senator Rubina Khalid clarified that the installment distributed in Rahim Yar Khan was the last payment under the old system. She said, “From now on, the method of distributing devices and funds will be made completely transparent. Payments to women should be made on time while ensuring dignity and respect.”
The Chairperson of the BISP further said that the digital wallet system would help eliminate deductions and corruption. Modern banking solutions are being introduced to save women from long queues and inappropriate conditions, and the money will be transferred directly into the digital accounts of eligible women.
The chairperson reaffirmed that the government will take all possible steps to protect the rights of deserving women and will not allow anyone to misuse funds meant for the poor.
