KIA discontinues sales of Picanto

KIA Pakistan appears to have discontinued its popular brand the Picanto after removing the small hatchback from its official vehicle lineup and stopping new bookings.

The company has not yet issued a formal statement about the decision. However, the removal of the Picanto from KIA Pakistan’s website indicates that the model is no longer being offered in the local market.

Lucky Motor Corporation introduced the KIA Picanto in Pakistan in September 2019. The locally assembled hatchback was launched as a compact and fuel-efficient car for daily city travel.

Despite receiving attention at the time of its launch, the Picanto failed to achieve strong sales in Pakistan’s competitive small-car market.

Its higher price compared with some rival models was seen as a major challenge. Buyers also raised concerns about its resale value and the availability of spare parts.

The automatic variant became popular among some urban drivers, but the manual version reportedly remained less successful.

Car buyers usually give high importance to price, fuel economy, resale value, spare parts and after-sales service. The Picanto struggled to compete in some of these areas, which may have affected its overall demand.

The model’s removal ends its nearly six-year journey in Pakistan.

The Picanto is still available in several international markets, where its third-generation model has received major design and technology updates. The latest version offers a refreshed exterior, improved lights, updated interior features and better safety equipment.

KIA Pakistan has not indicated whether it plans to launch the updated Picanto in the country.

Existing Picanto owners will now depend on the company’s dealerships for maintenance, spare parts and after-sales support, while KIA shifts its attention to other vehicles in its local lineup.
