Indrive, Bykea fares go up after petrol prices increase in Pakistan

How much more will ride-hailing services charge now?

Ride hailing cab and motorcycle services like Indirve and Bykea have also increased their fares in the country after the prices of petroleum products were hiked in Pakistan yesterday after a long hold.

Due to the increase in petrol price, the daily fuel expenditure of motorcycle riders has increased by Rs150, which has increased their monthly transportation expenses by Rs4,500.

An average ride of 15 to 20 kilometres, which would previously cost somewhere between Rs600 and Rs800, is now costing Rs1000 to Rs12,00.

Indrive, Bykea prices after petrol prices increase

We talked to drivers of multiple ride hailing online services. This is what they had to say.

Rashid Ali, driver of a mini auto, said that “Fares also depend on what the customer suggests, but since the prices have increased, I think it is a little difficult for both sides to compromise on the price.”

Another ride hailing driver, Shoaib Ali, said, “Petrol has become expensive in the international market because of the war and every sector is affected severely, as we can see. When I look at Pakistan, I appreciate our government because earlier, they made it expensive only once,” further commenting on how the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, had rejected the proposal to increase prices earlier.

One of the bikers said, “Yes, they have increased the prices, and it burdens us, I think it has gone up 50 to 60 per cent? But they have also given a subsidy to the common people. I also heard they will give free transport in some regions.”

He added, “I think we should appreciate the situation. Since the condition of the world is in front of us. It is a good thing, yes, a good thing.”

Another driver offering services via motorcycle said, “The fare is not in the driver’s hands; we can also only lessen the prices so much. Petrol prices have increased for us too”
