Web desk: An attack on Cadet College Wana was foiled on Monday after an attempt at a suicide explosion at the college entrance, sources said.
Security forces responded quickly and engaged the attackers. According to the initial reports, four to five militants were killed, and a clearance operation is under way.
Authorities cordoned off the area as forces carried out a systematic search for any remaining assailants.
Cadet College Wana is an institution established at the request of local tribes. It educates many children of the Mehsud and Wazir tribes, and its alumni serve in important posts across the country.
Sources said the attackers appeared intent on repeating the 2014 Army Public School-style atrocity, but security measures prevented a larger tragedy.
Local officials and security agencies condemned the assault and rejected any notion of negotiating with groups that target civilians.

The second operation was conducted in Dara Adam Khel District, where twelve militants were neutralised following a firefight. Sanitisation efforts are ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
