Cambridge announces retake of AS-Level Maths exam

Cambridge International has postponed the A-Level Mathematics paper scheduled for May 15 in Pakistan, while the new examination date will be announced on May 22.

According to the Cambridge Board, the postponed paper was A-Level Mathematics (9709) Paper 32, originally scheduled for May 15.

In its statement, Cambridge said the decision was taken after consultation with stakeholders in Pakistan and as an additional security measure.

The administration added that schools would be provided with detailed information regarding precautionary arrangements by May 22.

Cambridge further said that the release date for AS and A-Level results will remain unchanged on August 11.

Earlier, Cambridge International cancelled the AS Level Mathematics question paper (9709/12) taken on April 29 in administrative zones 3 and 4 after the paper was leaked before the exam, according to an official statement issued by the organisation.

The affected regions include Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan, South Asia, Cambodia, parts of Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The exam board said in the statement that the paper was leaked against its strict exam rules. Adding that because of the large scale of the leak, the paper could not be used to score the final results.

The board further announced that the paper will not be included in students’ final grades through a calculated assessment.

Cambridge said that it understands the frustration and disappointment faced by students, parents, and schools. “We know how frustrating and disappointing this incident has been for affected students, their families and schools,” the statement read.

“Students work incredibly hard to prepare for and take exams, and we value the trust placed in us to deliver fair results at the end of the exam process,” it further added.

According to Cambridge, fake claims about leaked papers are common. Many scammers use social media to trick students by claiming they can sell exam papers.

The board said that it regularly monitors and investigates reports of leaks. All students in the affected regions will now take a replacement paper.
