Canada has announced major changes to its Express Entry immigration system, with a revised points system set to take effect on November 3, 2026.
Under the new policy, skilled workers with eligible high-wage Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers could receive additional points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
According to the announced changes, candidates with at least one year of eligible Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations could receive 20, 40 or 70 additional points, depending on their wage category.
Applicants with qualifying job offers from Canadian employers could receive 50, 70 or 100 additional points, depending on the applicable wage level.
However, candidates eligible under both categories will receive only the higher of the two scores. Points from work experience and job offers will not be combined.
Changes to job offer requirements
The revised rules will also change the requirements for qualifying job offers. Certain LMIA-related requirements will be removed, while Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will assess the legitimacy of job offers, employers’ ability to meet their commitments and compliance with employment laws.
Job offers that are revoked or fail to meet the eligibility criteria will not qualify for additional points. Candidates must also meet the relevant qualifications and programme requirements.
Applicants advised to review profiles
Eligible candidates are advised to review their Express Entry profiles before November 3, 2026, and ensure that their information is accurate and up to date.
However, the immigration department has clarified that additional CRS points will not guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residence. Invitations will continue to depend on candidates’ overall eligibility and the CRS cut-off score in each selection round.
