Web desk: The Punjab government has announced free treatment for patients with cancer and heart diseases across the province.
Free heart, cancer treatment
The government will pay the complete cost of cancer treatment and cardiac surgeries.
A special card will be given to patients who qualify for the programme.
Under the orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, people diagnosed with cancer or heart disease will receive a Special Initiative Card.
Each patient will be able to get treatment worth up to Rs1 million without any charges.
This step is expected to provide major relief to people who cannot afford costly medical care.
An official statement said that, in the first phase, 45,000 patients will receive benefits through the new card.
This will remove the financial pressure caused by expensive procedures.
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has also asked for a plan for the quick treatment of stroke and paralysis cases.
She has given a deadline of 31 January for the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha to start operations.
The Secretary of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education briefed her on the progress of different health projects.
‘Suthra Punjab’ cleanliness system
Previously, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting to review the Suthra Punjab cleanliness initiative. And approve major reforms to modernise the province’s waste management system.
During the briefing, officials informed the Chief Minister that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, innovative electric vehicles will be used for sanitation work.
She was also briefed that the government plans to introduce a strict fine policy for individuals. And commercial entities found littering streets, markets, and public areas.
The Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure that all Suthra Punjab projects regularly use environment-friendly electric vehicles.
She said the new system would improve efficiency and reduce pollution.
Officials also informed the Chief Minister that Punjab will generate revenue and energy from waste under a new “waste-to-value” project.
