The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation in association with the Allied Bank Limited had organised the CDA Cycling Championship to promote a healthy and environmentally conscious lifestyle among the citizens of the city.
Held under the vision of “Clean and Green Islamabad”, the goal was to create awareness on environment and encourage people to be physically active on a regular basis.
What officials emphasised in the report is that in addition to advocating good health, riding a bicycle has also proven to be a highly successful means of pollution reduction.
Event Details
The championship was organised on Sunday, February 15, at Express Chowk from 10:00 am.
Entry was totally free to arrange the maximum participation of the public. Separate categories were made for men, women and senior citizens and great prizes were announced for outstanding performers.
Promoting Health and Environment
Organisers stressed that the biggest objective of the championship was to get citizens interested in physical exercise and develop environmental awareness in the capital.
They said that such initiatives help in creating a healthier society and raise a collective consciousness in maintaining a green and clean city.
Traffic Management in the Event
Due to the race, there were temporary closures of the key roads in the Blue Area. Roads from F-8 to Pak Secretariat were choked and people were advised to adopt a different route.
Traffic police asked for the public’s cooperation, saying that though it was a temporary inconvenience, the measures were for the people’s good.
Call to Citizens
Authorities asked Islamabad residents to actively take part in such initiatives to be a part of a healthy, active, and clean capital.
They confirmed that similar activities will go on in the future to make Islamabad a model, environmentally friendly city.
