CDA employees protest in Islamabad over Eid allowance

CDA employees protest

Capital Development Authority (CDA) employees marched in Islamabad today outside the office of the Chairman demanding the Eid allowance that has been provided to them as a longstanding part of a formal agreement.

The demonstrators have threatened that if the policy is not immediately reversed, then they will escalate their protest and surround the office of the Chairman.

The protest is organised by the CDA Mazdoor Union. Central office bearers of Mazdoor Union, members of Mazdoor Union committees, and a huge number of CDA employees are taking part in the protest.

In anticipation of the demonstration, authorities have deployed a heavy police presence to deal with the situation.

According to CDA Mazdoor Union, Eid allowance to the employees of the federal authority was paid under the orders of a CDA Board decision and union demand since 2006.

General Secretary, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin said that the allowance was announced this year too and a formal notification was issued.

However, the implementation of it was stopped suddenly, which caused anger and anxiety among employees.

Chaudhry Yasin against the suspension of allowance emphasised that it is a legitimate right of CDA staff.

He added that issuing a notification approving the Eid allowance and later stopping its implementation is not only violating an agreement but also a breach of the law.

By this decision, the Eid celebrations of our employees are directly affected.

The union has made an appeal to the Prime Minister, the Federal Minister for Interior, the Chairman CDA and other authorities for immediate payment of Eid Allowance as per the agreement.

They warned that if nothing is done to deal with the issue it could trouble the industrial peace in the federal capital.
