WEB DESK: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir has been termed as the model of a middle power multi-aligner.
The Financial Times, in its exclusive story titled “Middle powers face a new age of uncertainty”, stated that the first prize for adjusting to the tempo of Trump’s casual approach to the world has to go to Pakistan’s military strongman, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The British newspaper lauded Field Marshal’s leadership, saying that he is the very model of a middle power multi-aligner, skipping from Washington to Beijing, Riyadh to Tehran.
“He (Field Marshal Asim Munir) appreciated early that with Trump, flattery gets you just about anywhere. All this is much to the frustration of India, which has not indulged Trump and is finding the middle power game is not as easy as it had hoped,” FT added.
United States (US) President Donald Trump earlier praised Field Marshal Asim Muni,r saying that he is a great fighter.
Addressing delegates at the APEC CEO summit in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, Trump said that “the prime minister of Pakistan (Shehbaz Sharif) is a great guy and the field marshal. They have a field marshal. You know why he’s a field mar(shal)? He’s a great fighter. He really is. He’s a great guy too.”
Speaking about the Indian Rafale jet, down by Pakistan Air Force, he said that “I’m reading that seven planes were shot down. They’re going at it and they’re really starting to go.”
Earlier in September, Donald Trump, praised Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, during a speech to US military generals in Virginia.
Speaking to the audience, Trump recalled that just three days ago, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had been present with him.
He described Field Marshal Munir as a highly important figure in Pakistan.
The US president highlighted a remark made by Field Marshal Munir, who reportedly said that Trump had saved millions of lives by stopping wars.
‘He said I prevented conflict, saving countless lives. If the war had broken out, the situation would have been far worse,’ Trump recounted.
Trump described Munir’s comments as an honour and said he deeply appreciated the praise. The Field Marshal’s remarks were reportedly made in the presence of two US generals and other officials.
