CDF notification process has been initiated: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the process has been initiated for country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) notification.

The statement came at the time when anti state social media accounts started propaganda campaign against the armed forces.

However, the Defence Minister exposed the anti Pakistan elements, saying on his X, that “There is unnecessary and irresponsible speculation about CDF notification. Please be informed that the process has been initiated. PM is returning shortly. Notification will be issued in due course of time. No room for any conjecturing. Period!”

It is important to mention here that the 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed and signed by the President, naming Field Marshal Asim Munir as the First Chief of Defence Forces

The Field Marshal has become the First Chief of Defence Forces after the signature of President Zardari on the 27th Amendment Bill.

What is the Chief of Defence Forces?

Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority, following its earlier approval by the Senate.

The amendment introduces changes to both the military and the judiciary.

It creates a new post, the Chief of Defence Forces. This will be held by Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He will have command over all three branches of the armed forces.

The post of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee was abolished earlier.
