Cement prices have risen sharply across Pakistan, adding pressure on the country’s construction sector and raising concerns among consumers and builders.
According to the market reports, the price of a 50kg bag has increased from Rs822 to Rs1,091, with taxes and duties reportedly accounting for around 38% of the total cost.
Industry sources say the hike is not driven purely by demand and supply dynamics, but is also linked to taxation measures and broader policy challenges affecting the sector.
Experts point to rising electricity, gas and fuel costs as key factors behind the increase.
Higher transportation expenses have also contributed to pushing up overall production and distribution costs.
Analysts warn that if the trend continues, construction activity could slow further, potentially impacting employment and economic growth in related industries.
Builders and consumers have urged the government to intervene and to lower the prices.
They said that the continued rise is making housing and infrastructure projects increasingly unaffordable.
