Web desk: Pakistani internet sensation Arshad Khan, popularly known as “Chaiwala,” has had his national identity card reinstated after authorities verified his citizenship and informed the court that the document had been restored, his lawyer said on Monday.
The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench has issued orders to restore the identity card of Arshad Khan, the viral tea vendor.
After the court order, NADRA restored Arshad Khan’s identity card and the NADRA Verification Board confirmed Arshad Khan’s Pakistani citizenship.
According to the lawyer Umer Ijaz Gilani, as per the NADRA Verification Board’s confirmation. Arshad and his family are Pakistani citizens.
The court says that blocking a citizen’s identity card or passport is a violation of their constitutional rights.
“Chaiwala” Arshad Khan’s CNIC restored
The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench has ordered the restoration of Arshad Khan tea vendor’s identity card.
According to reports by ARY News, NADRA restored Arshad Khan’s identity card after the court order, and the NADRA Verification Board confirmed the citizenship.
Lawyer Umer Ijaz Gilani informed the court that the client’s problem has been resolved. Now, Arshad Khan and his family are regular Pakistani citizens.
The court said that blocking a citizen’s identity card or passport is a violation of constitutional rights. The case was disposed of on the petitioner’s request.
It should be noted that NADRA had blocked the passport and identity card of Arshad Khan “Chaiwala”.
It should be remembered that Arshad Khan, a tea vendor, had approached the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court for blocking his identity card and passport.
The petitioner said that NADRA officials were asking for proof of residence before 1978.
Arshad Khan had gained fame in Islamabad at the age of 17 after his pictures got viral.
