China reveals plans to regulate new energy vehicle industry

Officials in China have announced initiatives aimed at enhancing both price oversight and cost investigations as part of their ongoing efforts to regulate competition within the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector.

In these initiatives, officials will also aim to oversee automotive finance policies and sustain long-term actions to combat online misconduct in the industry, as stated by three government agencies, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which recently co-hosted a symposium with NEV firms.

Relevant agencies have committed to improved inter-departmental collaboration and a stronger focus on innovation-driven growth to foster the high-quality advancement of the new energy vehicle industry in China.

During the symposium, officials also urged for increased efforts to address vulnerabilities in the automotive chips and fundamental software industries, encourage broader adoption of new technologies, and expedite advancements in autonomous driving technology.

The symposium additionally highlighted other key priorities for the industry’s growth, particularly the enhancement of automobile consumption.

Significant measures, including targeted initiatives to increase consumption and the rollout of trade-in programs for vehicles, will be enacted, as noted during the symposium.
